On Tuesday morning, Year 2 were very excited to be heading to Laxey on their school trip. We went to the Great Laxey Mines Railway first. Thank you to the two volunteers who gave up so much of their time to explain to the children how everything worked. They showed all the children the trains, carriages and work sheds. We all even got a chance to sit in and pretend to drive the engine – very exciting!
After this, we moved onto the Lady Evelyn Wheel and the children were fascinated with the local history and the life of a Miner many years ago. We then went for a little walk along the river and had our lunch in a glen before heading up to the Laxey Wheel. We spent some time figuring out how it worked and then walked back to catch the tram up Snaefell.
This was the highlight of our trip and the children couldn’t wait. They marvelled at the view going up, until we hit Manannan’s Cloak near the summit but we still managed to find our way to the top. Like marauding Vikings, coming out of the mist the children reached the summit. After a small amount of time at the top, they then enjoyed the tram back down to Laxey and the bus back to school – making it home just in time. The children were so well behaved, it was an absolute pleasure to take them.
