This week Year 6 were extremely lucky to take part in a workshop alongside Joy from the 'Joyful Henna' company, and what a fantastic morning it was!
To build on our topic learning in RE- 'Expressing Faith through the Arts', Joy spent the morning sharing her fantastic knowledge, skills and experiences with our team.
We began the morning by discussing who around the world may use body art and what it is often used for. Following this we learnt about popular Polynesian elements and motifs and explored what some of the most popular symbols mean. Then children had a go at drawing some of the symbols themselves as well as creating some beautiful Mandala designs.
Joy of course told us all about her henna paste, what ingredients she uses, how she makes it, stores it and uses her own handmade henna cones to create her designs.
Whilst the children applied their knowledge, and designed their own 'henna hands', Joy very kindly worked her magic and gave each child a henna design of their choice.
We'd like to say a HUGE thank you to Joy for all she taught us and the memories she helped create!
